NeurIPS Cover Letter

NeurIPS does not strictly require a cover letter for the main track. When one is required (workshop tracks, datasets and benchmarks track, special calls) or when the authors choose to provide one, this snapshot applies. ICML / CVPR share most expectations.

Tone

• Contribution-led. Conference reviewers do not have time for marketing.
• Concise. Conference letters trend shorter than journal letters.

Opening

• One sentence stating the contribution (algorithm, theoretical result, dataset, benchmark).
• Name the track (main / datasets-benchmarks / workshops).

Contribution Framing

• Three concise contributions, each one sentence.
• One quantitative anchor.
• Avoid "broader impact" framing in the letter itself — that belongs in the manuscript's Broader Impact section (required by NeurIPS).

Journal Fit

• Two sentences connecting to the conference's published call for papers focus areas.
• Reference at most one recent paper from the same venue.

Declarations (Required for NeurIPS)

• Originality and dual-submission policy compliance (NeurIPS has explicit rules on this).
• Reproducibility checklist confirmation (referenced from manuscript).

Length

• Hard ceiling: 400 words.

Common Desk-Reject Triggers

• Dual-submission policy violation (NeurIPS is strict).
• Missing reproducibility checklist confirmation in the cover letter when the manuscript is borderline.
